With the exception of Joe Grima and myself, the other gentlemen memorialized in the 1986 photograph taken with Grand Master Fra��� Angelo de Mojana (with cane at center) at the Malta Palace on Via Condotti in Rome have passed away. From left to right, our group included, on that historic day, Ambassador Dino Marrajeni KM of the Order to Malta, Dr. Paul Farrugia KM of MASMOM, Ambassador of Malta to SMOM, myself, the Grand Master, Minister Joe Grima, Grand Chancellor of the Order Baron Felice Catalano and Victor Mercieca, then Director of Tourism, Government of Malta. Chatting with Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici in July of 2011 at a very much 21st century Porto Maso Marina Caf�� at St. Julians was a far cry from the baroque beauty of the Premier���s office at the old Auberge de Castile. Although now in his late seventies, Karmenu still possesses the same demeanor, albeit enhanced by the distinguished appearance which often occurs with maturity. His cane seemed more like a gentleman���s walking stick. His eyes and gaze are as clear and direct after nearly a generation. Joe Baldacchino, chairman of Smash, accompanied him.
