Karmenu recalled our meeting and my suggestion to him
for the Knights return to Malta. He indicated to me that
as a result of our discussion he immediately did two things.
He contacted Joe Grima requesting that he be in touch with
me, and that Joe begin, in his capacity as Tourism Minister,
developing ideas. He also contacted Dr. Edgar Mizzi, at the
time Advocate-General (now referred to as Attorney General)
of the Malta Republic, asking him to explore practicalities.
Now deceased, Dr. Mizzi wrote a book on his experiences,
Malta In The Making. His was a new premiership at the time
and this project would be one of its hallmarks.
Over dinner at Rizzu in Marsaxlokk, lunch at La Vela in Msida
and at Ta Cenc Hotel on Gozo (Maltas sister island), Joe and
I recalled many events. Among them were Karmenus call,
Joe sitting in his ministerial office after the Prime Minister
contacted him thinking about the numerous possibilities and
benefits of the project to Malta and to the Order and the
numerous efforts undertaken to make it happen.
