Alta
A brownstone on West 10th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues
houses Alta, a Spanish Tapas restaurant on one of Manhattans
most picturesque blocks. With hacienda-like details and a seriously
potent sangria my daily cares are quick to disappear. The intimate
atmosphere lends itself to dinner at the bar on crowded nights,
impromptu gatherings, or a conversation with the couple beside you.
The bacon wrapped dates which are both sweet and salty might be
a girl thing but are definitely what the Brits call moreish. The small
plates of braised short rib of beef and the langoustine-like whole
shrimp satisfy more carnivorous cravings but Im mindful of the fried
goat cheese with lavender infused honey and the crispy brussels
sprouts with fuji apples, crme fraiche and pistachio nuts.
