Tamarind
British parents and years working in London foster cravings for Indian
food that Tamarind, and in particular its Tribeca offshoot, satisfies
perfectly. The modern space boasts an open layout with theatrical
lighting that frames the picture-perfect crowd. Beginning with the
samosas I quickly move on to one of 10 different types of naan with
a side of cucumber raita before a tandoor dish- with one eye on my
friends tikka masala. When I leave a piece of me wishes I restrained
myself but it is a lesson I am quite content never to learn.

Brunch at Rayuela.
Rayuela
I venture to Rayuela at 165 Allen Street on the Lower Eastside when
I want the feel of a Miami vacation without the pressure to pack. The
candlelit bar and dim spotlights reflect perfectly off the stone floors
and flowing white curtains- making the fresh faces of the hip crowd
even fresher. An olive tree grows from the very middle of the first floor
to the upstairs level, adding to its aura of escapism.
