The New York School of Interior Design, covered in this issue, has both substantial new facilities as well as expanded course offerings fusing traditional knowledge with contemporary thinking, expanding student's conception of design practice. We have an in-depth interview with NYSID President David Sproul. As a long time supporter of NYSID I was pleasantly surprised to be the recipient of an honorary doctorate at this year's commencement. A Harvard commencement address in Latin, the announcement that HYLAND will be publishing articles from Yale Global of Yale University, and a thoughtful interview of Dr. Alan Lewis, shy 75 years a psychologist, represent the depth of thought which HYLAND readers embrace. All of the above indicates a new and powerful synthesis of design and its manufacture with scholarship, commerce and digital journalism, the latter a massively novel engine for the global dissemination of all that is vital and important about design. All design is local, yet universal.
