Another Panton icon shown here is "C1" which is a
pure round nest perched on a stem grounded in a
quadrant support. The "Cone Chair," an almost heart-
shaped enclosure is similarly planted, pointed end
downward, on a supportive base of four members.
Panton's chairs often look precarious, yet they are
firm and comfortable.
It sometimes takes decades for a classic to be
recognized as such: the forms and materials of
Panton's beautiful chairs and lamps, new-fangled and
experimental in their time, have come of age, auguring
a direction for contemporary designers to stretch
themselves ever further in the discovery of new, yet
wholly practical modes of furniture. H
