royal staircase, internal courtyard, colonnades, bastions
and spectacular iconography give them more than a run
for the money. All this set 1500 feet up on a hillside.
Donna Julia Brambilla, the American-born heiress and
wife of Italian diplomat Guiseppe Brambilla, came to
understand her husband's "…overwhelming desire to
live at Caprarola…" That was 1918. She would live for
years in the splendid palace animated by two Alessandro
Farneses, both princes of the Church, the first ascending
to the Papacy as Pope Paul III.
