also known as Villa Farnese. I
think of Caprarola as the base of
a Renaissance Tower of Babel,
one comprised of unseen spiritual
forces; a vortex designed to attract
celestial forces; and the forerunner
of the modern skyscraper. It seems
to have been created for a vast
cosmopolitan center, yet it inhabits
an idyllic countryside. It was a
wonder of its age and still is, smaller
by far than Versailles or Caserta, but
Caprarola outdoes them. It is by far
