The ancillary houses depicted in this book range from
eloquently simple to opulently over-the-top. Emphatically
in the latter category is Juan-Pablo Molyneux's 1,000
square foot residence within a hotel particulier, built
in 1619, in the Marais, Paris. Molyneux, born in Chile
and resident primarily in a townhouse in New York with
his wife Pilar, needed a second base for benefits and
for design operations as the couple shuttle around
the world on projects. Molyneux eventually purchased
several apartments in the building, linking them through
a staircase it took eons to obtain permission from the
French government to build in the historic monument.
