cleverly cut into arches, one can almost hear the bullets
whizzing out of Daniel O'Connell and John D'Esterre's
guns as the two quietly duel over whether "Corpo" was a
"beggarly corporation," as stated by O'Connell—and
though it was he who was expected to be slower, it was
D'Esterre, in the end, who fell on these grounds.
University College Dublin bought the Lyons house and
1,200 acres of the estate in the 1960s, but Ryanair
businessman Tony Ryan purchased the house and 620
acres 30 years later for 3.5 million pounds. He would go
on to spend over 20 times as much renovating the estate
into what it is today.
The house itself comprises several different parts. The
experience of the Main House begins with the entrance hall
and a greeting by several classical portraits hung neatly
on the walls between Grecian carvings above each door.
