New York pooches, it seems, are also natural models. "I
think photographing outside with no flash and no lights,
in a relaxed familiar environment, is the key," Davies
explains her dog-whispering. "Most of my portraits are
shot outside, or in the dogs' homes. And for some reason,
dogs usually like me."
Not that there haven't been some interesting moments
on her Daily Dog quest, such as the day Davies happened
upon a beautiful bulldog. "The owner said the dog loves
to have his photo taken and got him to sit for me," she
recalls. "Just as I started to take his photo a guy in a suit
and a tie walked by with a skateboard he'd bought for his
son. He got about a block past us when all of a sudden
the bulldog raced off after him, leaped up and landed on
the man with all fours, knocking him face down on the
