Turrell is the creator of bodies of work that involve both an intervention in nature (albeit an ecologically benign one) and the active observation of it. Hence, his series, begun in the 1970s, of a series of "skyspaces", enclosed rooms open to the sky through an aperture in the roof, with space for fifteen people. Turrell, born a Quaker and still a practicing one, entitled a 1986 work Meeting. Installed at P.S.1 in New York, it consists of a square room with a rectangular opening HYLAND
