guest houses on that iconic estate. Whereas Morgan
was fastidiously loyal to the minutiae of the BeauxArts, rendering some of her creations overwrought,
Imber presents a near-ideal of the genre, refraining from
extreme ornamentation where it would be superfluous.
Few houses, whatever their size, resemble more the
ideal of a Mediterranean villa at home in America than
the Walker House, achieved by a successful ordered
irregularity, often the hallmark of genius.
