Certain
Imber
buildings
evince harmonious irregularity
and a craftsmanship so
consummate, that
they
seem not to have been built
in the modern age at all.
Such is the case with several
aspects of T-Anchor Ranch,
Medina, Texas, which in fact
incorporates a twice-renovated
structure built originally in
the 1940s by H.C. Thorman,
a well-known San Antonio
architect and preservationist.
The original structure was
small, with a two-story room
containing a stone fireplace
and dramatic entry via a
balcony from the higher end
of the house. In 1949, a gifted
local stonemason, Hough
Le Storgeon, added several
rooms using local river stone
to erect massive walls.
It was Imber's task to double
the size of the structure while
