Less well known, the pursuit of game on foot with hounds
literally began when humankind domesticated the beast
which we now fondly consider our best friend, the dog.
Today, Elizabeth Park and Oakleigh Thorne, joint masters
of Sandanona Harehounds continue a tradition that, in
one form or another, our nation's founders would have
been familiar with. Simply explained, in lieu of the fox,
the hare or the rabbit is pursued; in lieu of riders on
horseback and hounds pursuing quarry, this field sport
is carried out on foot, accompanied by a pack of dogs,
Beagles or Bassets.
