Burmese wooden rabbit, 19th century; Sandstone uma
Khmer torso, Cambodia, Baphuon period, 11th century
representing every major period and style that attracted
scholars from all over the world. Unfortunately, in 1967 he
mysteriously disappeared while vacationing in Malaysia
and has not been seen since. Anticipating his return,
his servants maintained his house exactly as he left it,
showcasing his collection, which has now become one
of Bangkoks leading attractions. His Buddha images still
stand, exactly as he left them, displaying a remarkably
gentle elegance and tranquil environment. Looking at
the evolutionary record of Thai art in his house, I began to
understand the subtleties of his passion and thus began
my own appreciation for the unique arts of Thailand.
