another monastery or temple
complex.
Golden stupas
pointed skyward, towering
over the orange and green tiled
buildings. Mounted on each
cornice and peak were tall,
bird-like sculptures, curving
up and away from the building,
as if standing guard over the
compound. From the river, the
complexes could be viewed
as a unit instead of individual
components and their beauty
unfolded. I was in awe as the
magical became mystical.
After several days of non-stop
tours and unbearable heat,
we went to the Jim Thompson
House and Museum. Jim
Thompson was an American
architect and businessman
who moved to Thailand after
WW II and rebuilt the Thai silk
industry into an internationally
recognized product. As a self
taught authority on Southeast
Asian art, he amassed
an exceptional collection
of
