Bronze by Mahonri Young
In Coulters words, everybody around here calls her
Rosie the Riveter. I empathize with her because everyone
must be both connected to the world theyre in but be
able to move outside it to ensure that what you have is
sustained. The negligee clad figure of a woman, whose
feet barely touch a mid-century jet plane as it ascends,
is surrounded by the icons of domesticity, ranch houses
and children. Remarkably, although this gently ironic work
of art addresses the ascension of women, it does so in
a way that does not transmit to the viewer a tension in
the happening. No party to what is depicted is derided;
the personae are accepted and exalted by the artist.
