columns, themselves suggesting the human figure, at the
top of each staircase. Pairs of other windows surround
these central byways, not unlike the light bulbs in Katz���
painting.
Glancing from the center of the room at one painting
and then to the other is an interesting study in viewing
nature-made and man-made: there is power both in the
couple and in these houses, a Coulter curatorial coup.
Coulter has also adroitly placed, diagonally to the left
and right, on the long wall opposite the entry door, two
huge vertical portraits, Tough Tony and Steve, both by
