matching that of the curtains. This interior exerts its
authority through plainness rather than grandeur. White
wainscoting underscores the rural feel of the room.
That is not to say that Farmlands contains no grand
interiors. Witness the dining room, with its Ionic columned
tripartite window, its walls, above the dado, hung with
a French Zuber block printed wallpaper depicting a
hunting scene; the columns seem to rise out of this
