Chatham house meditation on the great country house, from Robert Adam to Philip Johnson. This is the house of a major art collector and Axis Mundi have custom designed furniture to compliment works by Lucien Freud among others. The long dining room with a large window overlooking a meadow resembles the refectory in a monastery, except that instead of icons or crucifixes on the walls there is a magnificent painting, by Lucien Freud, of a woman asleep with a hound; and a black and white abstraction by Ross Bleckner. The house contains an actual art gallery, a long hall, hung with numerous other works. HYLAND
