Why does editorial necessarily have to
be restricted to a single theme or type of
anything? Thats why we have breakfast
at Tiffanys: so we may freely imbibe
everything. Long live Jackie Kennedy,
Babe Paley, Barbara Hutton and Mrs.
Whitney, all of whom at least would
have appreciated and enjoyed this lively
repertoire.

Most of these jewels compose a rarified
collection notable for its fanciness
and fancifulnessthe antithesis of the
severe Scandinavian strain that inflects
much late 20th century jewelry. Yet there
is an Eastern air about them: they are
infused with the bright color and even
slight visual overkill that would appease
a Maharajah. To many, especially young
clients in Western markets, they will
be perceived as new and fresh, almost
modern, compared to the reaches
of sober, streamlined design that has
rendered the last generation of jewelry
a bit tepid, a period during which the
much-maligned airport jewelry passed
for the fine baroque. In Eastern markets,
much of this jewelry will be perceived
as appealing to local taste, having been
conceived through the lens of the West.
