T
he 1913 New York Armory Show ushered in
European modernism in art, laying the groundwork for the
eventual emergence of Abstract Expressionism, Americas
important contribution to art history.
The 2012 New York City Holiday House will have a similar
influence, assuming that its compelling and seminal narrative
serves as an immediate inspiration and as a precursor for show
houses and design movements to come.
The Fifth Annual Holiday House, chaired by founder Iris
Dankner, a fifteen year breast cancer survivor and Christopher
Hyland, was held at the Academy Mansion on East 63rd Street
from October 24th to November 25th 2012. Decorators
were asked to create holiday design schemes of their choice,
resulting in a broad, life affirming repertoire. Leonard
Lauder was the Honorary Chairman. The holiday-themed
designer show house benefited the Breast Cancer Research
Foundation, founded by Evelyn Lauder, the late style setter
and philanthropist. Alexa Hampton and Charlotte Moss
served as design chairmen. Steve Bastone, Beth Brenner, Tom
Fillicia, Sarah Gore and Anne Maine were Vice-Chairmen.
Traditional Home Magazine, with Anne Maine as Editor in
Chief, was Media Sponsor, AVENUE Magazine was a sponsor
and HYLAND Magazine, edited by Kyle Marshall, sponsored
the catalogue.
