aspirations and design sensitivities of patrons and clients. In the case of Juan Montoyas book, La Formentera, it records through Eric Piaseckis illuminating photography the designers own splendid woodland estate and house. The fluid, ever-evolving nature of the traditionally centered American residential design aesthetic is evinced by the work of Heiberg Cummings Design, an Oslo and New York based firm, which infuses the American residential design story with a Scandinavian accent that embraces a light palette both literally and figuratively. Eric Cohler is the most visibly contemporary of these designers, most reflective of the taste for eclecticism, drawing his inspiration from the classic mindset of the Grand Tour. Matthew Patrick Smyth believes there are perimeters governing the relationship between all of a rooms components. He affirms the importance of objects, whatever the style might be. Thomas Jayne seeks a design narrative mindful always of the central question, What is American decoration? Possessing these books in hand, their weight, opening them, feeling the fine paper quality, turning each page, gleaning knowledge and knowing that on a nearby shelf, these epistles of beauty reside constitutes contentment.
