Founding (and now presiding over) one of the world's premier
textile firms would seem to be aspiration enough for most
people in the business side of the design world, but not for
Christopher, whose talents extend to interior decoration itself
and to what I can best describe as the work of a 'taste-maker,'
someone whose imprimatur signals a mark of approval from
a figure whose standards are both stringent and imaginative.
Christopher's current stature in this second sphere of influence
is based on three successive developments, beginning with his
role as guest editor for Shelter (now called Interiors) magazine
and Robb Report Luxury Home, publications that enabled him
to stitch together his many interests, including the cultural
institutions that continue to engage his support. It was then
