racial divisions and civil inequality. Kreindler���s art records
these changes, infusing all players with a kind of sporting
dignity, a common denominator which eventually broke
barriers. The painter tells us to keep our eye on the ball,
on the action, each player a conduit whatever side of the
tracks they come from, whatever religion, whatever ethnic group, whatever race. These boys of summer stand,
like it or not, as a metaphor for the American experience
of aspiration, of sheer can-do.
