ew York artist Graig Kreindler paints Americas Favorite Pastime, baseball. His subjects cover the
broad history of baseball with a particular interest in the
more distant, more romantic period, a fabled time when
the game was played on grass, there were no airconditioned clubhouses, big screen TVs and for much of
which the game could only be seen at a ballpark. The
subjects of his art often depict great baseball events and
personalities, that form part of a national consciousness
that found wonder, the remarkable and the fantastic in
the arrival of a ship, the passing of a train and the landing
of the amphibious Pan Am Clipper in China. Kreindler
considers himself to be a visual historian of the baseball
world of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, recreating a history
he has never experienced, yet one to which he feels
profoundly connected.
