Next,
BB, the
Big Bang
Rioja
de
Exopto 2007,
13 percent ($17).
It had a phone
number on the label.
If you call it you get a
recorded description
of the wine. Pretty cool.
Good marketing; sadly not
equaled by the winemaking.
Its 50 percent Grenache and
40 percent Tempranillo and 10
percent Graciano. It was wine
but not very good wine. It had a
heavy after taste, a cough syrupy
unctuousness. It smelled better than
the taste which is the opposite of what
we look for in wine.
The Wine Advocate gave 90 points to the
BB wine, a fact postered in retail stores.
Mr. Parker, a writer on Spanish wines, has
since been canned for improprieties in his
arrangements with producers. No plans have
been announced to retaste any of the Spanish
wines. Just mentioning.
