One stellar event after another, orchestrated
by a small staff and team of volunteers and
perfectly organized, engage the widest
possible participation and benefit a wide
range of charities. The images of these
events���Rockestra 2011, L Strina 2011,
an inspiring marathon, its participants all
in noble purple���are ones of hope, joy and
even euphoria. They are visual proof that
the human spirit, when motivated by a
beneficent common cause, can surmount
anything, turning would-be setbacks into
triumph. These events reveal extraordinary
unity and even communion; they are fitting
testimony to President Abela���s proactive
presidency, in a democracy where generally
approximately 98% of the electorate vote.
One is struck by the sheer number of
participants, this is charity as broad-based
national pastime. Events such as the
shimmering Ball of the August Moon invite
participants to experience the elegance of
a summary version of a State event, one
taking place for the purpose of promoting
service in the world and organized with an
appropriate reserve and dignity.
