W hose home out there is done, decorated, ���finis���? Anyone? (If you raised your hand, put it down quickly and I���ll pretend I didn���t see.) In my non-professional opinion, rooms, like their owners, should never ever be ���finished.��� Just like the people who live in them, they should continue to evolve over time. I know of a home that was decorated to the hilt about five years ago and when all the neighbors were invited over for a house-warming cocktail (clear liquids only), it glittered with the energy of a debutante making her first public curtsey. We carefully held our drinks level as we tiptoed through the public rooms and oohed and aahed over all the artful tablescapes and one-of-a-kind antiques. It was as elegant and polished as any feature in a top interiors magazine. In the four years since then, the homeowners have gone through seismic personal and career changes. One of them left the corporate world, the other has returned to it. One recently arrived home from a riverboat trip up the Amazon and the other is currently studying for his PhD in philosophy. Recently, I had the chance to see the house again and I couldn���t help being struck by what I saw...or rather, HYLAND
