and spaciousness. Glenn also has a genius for designing
tailored upholstery, which suffuses all his ensembles with
American comfort and New York sophistication.
Here, in HYLAND, is a masterwork, the Water Mill house
of Caroline Hirsch, of Carolines Comedy Club fame,
which Glenn has been working on and refining for the
past twenty years. Glenns
long involvement in the
project is testimony to the
wisdom and beauty of his
original conception of it.
Glenns Hirsch house
might be summed up by
the injunction, Let there
be light. The rooms of the
house explore whiteness in
walls and textiles, darkness
in wood and accessories.
The result is a pleasing
chiaroscuro, a slight weight
of moodiness, of depth, in
even the palest of rooms.
The entry features a long Anglo-Colonial settee, two
Chinese tables of polished mahogany, and a drawing
by April Gornik. (Glenn curates the art for many of his
clients.) With the white walls and light beige sisal matting,
the result is calligraphic, the writing on the wall for what
the rest of the house has in store.
