Through Glenn I imbibed the ethos of what it means
to be an American decorator. For Americans have at
their disposal a long world history of furniture and art
and a much shorter national one. Glenn and I shared a
love of the English Arts & Crafts movement���present in
nearly all of Glenn���s projects is a Liberty Thebes stool, a
talisman of that movement���but Glenn taught me how
not to interpret these often heavy interiors too literally.
He would take wooden Arts & Crafts furniture, British
or American, often oak or ebonized, and implant it in
interiors lightened to modern, very American, airiness
