and the poor. Singularly, the visit with
him highlighted the deep charitable
mission that inflected the entire
endeavor. Nearly a generation later,
I would fully embrace the principal
task of the Order, to serve their
Lords and Ladies, the sick and the
poor.
In Paris, Prince Polignac received
me at his apartment. I was
enveloped by a heightened
awareness of the majesty,
stateliness and ceremony of the
Order. Pictures of his annual
receptions at Versailles had
pride of place in the perfectly
proportioned,
modestly
scaled rooms of his wellappointed
apartment.
He, also, supported the
project,
commenting
on how appropriate it
would be as a setting
for
Malta
events.
