Another small space which announces the character of the house is a window seat beneath a tall narrow window with a curious border of white mullions. This doubleheight prospect resembles a defensive window at the heights of a medieval tower. It also calls to mind one of the final scenes in the film of The French Lieutenant���s Woman, where Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons reconcile against a white, windowseated backdrop, emblem of Aesthetic Movement d��cor and late 19th century liberated womanhood. The living room and dining room continue this essay in shades of white with dark furniture. The living room has floor to ceiling windows and doors draped with simple white Corragio fabric curtains on wooden rings. The custom Knole sofa from Jonas Upholstery is soft sage green, with high arms and tight back, accompanied by two upholstered arm chairs in a tight rib fabric from Payne with a contrast welt. The furniture is polished mahogany, mostly Regency in inspiration, although there is one tall-backed Elizabethan style chair with twisting arms and tapestry upholstery. One is reminded that Whistler and other exponents of the Aesthetic Movement used HYLAND
