Regency furniture in their otherwise radical interiors, as
providing grace notes against lighter patterns and colors.
The carpet, an antique Sultanabad from Safavieh, is
robustly figured in dark navy, ivory, blue-grey and rust.
The dining room constitutes an overt Arts & Crafts
statement, with magnificent
mahogany English Arts &
Crafts dining chairs circa
1900. I remember these chairs
as one of Glenns first finds
for the house, and they are
dramatically combined with
other
beautifully
somber
elements in the dining room: a
huge custom designed bronze
chandelier with wax candles
with shades, and a large and
interesting, stormy seascape
in dark oils circa 1910 found
covered in soot in a Greenwich
Village antique store basement.
The custom polished mahogany table is set off by a large
beaten copper charger. There is a slight melancholy
attached to this room, yet it is one that pleases, one that
is poetic, one that triggers an emotional sense of fullness
and well-being. Such is the remarkable effect of Glenns
design synthesis. H
