But the Ranch is at its most adventuresome in Montana's harshest time of year, the winter, with its ten-degree temperatures, and the sense of remoteness that such clime imparts. At that time a discerning die-hard crowd hastens to The Ranch to engage in a full complement of rugged winter sports, including Percheron-led sleigh rides, cross-country and downhill skiing, and ice-skating and ice-fishing, to name a few. Apres-ski or whatnot, there is the Missoula Art Museum, which recently exhibited a private collection of over 130 Ansel Adams photographs, including Yosemite landscapes and portraits of Georgia O'Keeffe and Dorothea Lange.
