S
tevenson's book of poems, A Child's Garden of Verses,
encourages imagination, travel and a sense of place. Reading
them as a child served to impart validity to my own thoughts
of adventure, building and, yes, design. My father's 'Cozy Bear'
stories, particularly those told during the hard early darkness of
winter, always included detailed descriptions of caves, castles and
buildings.
Fra Jean-Michael von Stroebel writes in his introduction to my
essay, Malta Knights: "Keep in mind the importance of imagination
which has turned this story into a larger one." His dictum also
very much applies to these photographs, despite their depiction of
a negative, rather than positive, larger story.
