TEN RULES OF PLACEMENT S TAN TOPOL'S I. Always understand the purpose of a room. 2. Understand the architecture of that room. 3. Always design the seating arrangement so that it enhances the architectural integrity of the room. 4. Rarely show the back of a sofa...unless you have designed it so that the back is as important as the front. 5. Never walk into a space with the side of a cabinet sticking out from the wall. 6. Always counter balance the structure of the room with the furniture. 7. Remember that people need to be able to talk and hear each other...watch your distances. 8. Having style does not mean one has to be stylish. What is the trend today may look dated and tacky tomorrow. 9. Always check the backs of your chairs as well as the sofas. Backs are a sure tell tell sign of an amateur when they are straight down. 10. Finally, remember to consider the art work of a room, it tells the entire story before you can look at the furniture or the fabrics. HYLAND
