The white wainscoted living room
is a scintillating relative of these
early 20th century interiors, an
exciting twist on the all-white room.
The walls and dado are painted
a sparkling white that is bluish in
cast, and indeed, blue, along with
purple, is a color that appears in
key elements of this and other
rooms.
The designer has chosen wisely
a couch that incorporates the
very best of mid-century modern
design and Edwardian design. In
doing so, he avoids the inevitable
austerity and discomfort of so
many modern seating devices.
This couch has clean, quite high
enough tailored arms, no skirt, and
a tight upholstered back. Yet the
detached seat cushion is tufted,
and short Edwardian pillows
promise comfortable seating. A
single large down-filled pillow
invites you to prop it against the
sturdy arm and recline for a siesta
or quality iPad time. An art nouveau
bergere flanks one end of the
couch, covered in an Edwardian
off-white and violet damask.
