very few memories of Cuba, but one she does have is
of sitting by the side of her mother, Anilu Oms, watching
Oms design costumes. Lot of other things must have
occurred during her early childhood, but this is what
Arias remembers. Both of Arias parents are artists: her
mother designs costumes for the theater and her father
is a film director.
The story could have ended in the stagnation of
Communist Cuba, but Arias family had a stroke of luck.
They were given Visas to leave Havana and move to
Mexico City. And from Mexico City it was on to Miami,
where they joined their extended family.
