With respect to the New
York, Athens, Berlin, Paris
and London museums, the
Centrale Montemartini is the
most provocative presentation of ancient Roman and
Greek statues I have ever
viewed. White marble bodies of ancient Gods, athletes or animals interface
with industrial aesthetics,
conceived and executed
more than 120 years ago. It
provides a profound historical context, reaching across
the centuries, that would
enthrall Michelangelo, Piranesi and Leonardo da Vinci.
Although aesthetically contrary, one could imagine that
the geometry, the broad and
particular concepts, of both
the statues and of the nuts,
bolts, levers, cog-wheels
and turbines are of the same
spirit.
We have long progressed
technologically since this
period, but I wonder if today
HYLAND
