K
entucky brings to mind visions of a bucolic ideal populated by magnificent stallions and mares.
Big Brown, the horse that won the Kentucky Derby, Americas
ultimate horseracing trophy, was bred, foaled and reared as a
yearling at Dr. Gary Knapps Monticule Farm.
Monticule is both a dynamic thoroughbred operation and an
arboretum. Some of the thoroughbred industrys greatest sires
are found in the pedigree lines of Monticule broodmares, including Seattle Slew, Gulch, Broad Brush, Mr. Prospector, A.P.
Indy, Deputy Minister, and Danzing (who sold for $9.2 million). All this equine beauty exists atop a plantation Dr. Knapp
envisioned on a Jeffersonian scale.
