Both the chapel and the hotel were
designed by Sanmicheli. Here, he
achieved inspired work for an inspired site.
Arriving for dinner by water ferry
or private launch, the entire setting, Stella���s rock, cyprus trees,
lemon and olive groves, villa, chapel and verdant trees, stretching
higher and higher, one above the
other, recall settings depicted in
19th century Romantic paintings,
B��cklin���s Island of the Dead comes
to mind. But in this case, the place
celebrates good living. Eternal paradise should be so good.
