suggest that the drawings were made for a related

Since Horne, the fragments have been associated
with the influence of Leonardo da Vinci and Girolamo
Savonarola. While Leonardos unfinished monochrome
version of an Adoration of the Magi of c. 1482 has
been paralleled with Botticellis technique, Savonarolas
sermons have been linked to his style and subject matter.
This has allowed art historians to date the fragments
between the 1480s and the early 1500s. Now scholars
favour a dating around 1505. The stylistic reasoning will
be examined later.
