he neighborhood surrounding Lismore, the Black River
Valley, is a sequestered corner of Ireland. With very little commercial development, it has numerous great country houses, working farms and much sporting life. Lismore village is
charming. There are antiques shops, Jonathan Ackroyd, a tasteful jewelry shop, historic churches and gardens. O���Brien Chop
House is a must as is Foleys on the mall for libations and chow.
It is a pleasure to visit several stately houses opened by special
arrangement with Sean Willoughby with tours given by their
devoted owners. Suzi Wingfield of Salterbridge House, the
Jameson sisters at Tourin House and the Keanes at Cappoquin
