ania Vartan is a designer of fabrics and a virtuoso painter of surfaces. In this Florence apartment she
has animated every wall and all the pieces of furniture
with her decorative motifs, derived from the medieval
and mannerist Italian sources which surround her in her
city. Her murals and trompe l���oeil paintings adorn illustrious houses, museums and clubs the world over. No
stranger to these shores, Vartan���s murals of the White
House interiors, c. 1902, are on display in the Smithsonian, executed for the inauguration, in 1989, of George
