Bedu and Camel at Zayed Mosque
In the suite of Middle Eastern images from the Arabian/Persian Gulf, a horseman and his mount in Dubai
are silhouetted against what appears to be dense industrialization and development. In Homage to Sheikh
Khalifa, a solitary figure garbed in traditional Arab attire,
surrounded by desert sands, appears to gaze up and
beyond the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. A similar scene, Baseera Insight, shows a camel and a dismounted driver
set in silhouette against the vast Sheikh Zayed mosque
in Abu Dhabi. The humans and animals depicted appear separate from their environment, or are they meant
to be pleasantly at a comfortable distance?
