HYLAND
was substandard. I reinvented, with my clients, a great
house, with beautiful detail, but without pretension. Today
Marwood is a classic house reflecting French architectural
and decorative traditions, but viewed through a modern
American lens.
It was important that, in the
next chapter of this house,
for Drysdale to reflect the way
people want to live today.
She cleared out unneeded,
inefficient and confusing
service space, transforming
the 46-foot dining room
into a more intimate family
dining room and entertaining
space, with a reading and
study area for her clients'
son. The kitchen, with a
generous island for dining, as
well as food preparation, has, like the rest of the house,
spectacular views. The 46 foot grand entry hall of the
house was redefined and now, offers what had always
been possible, but never done, remarkable views of the
river. The emphasis in the reimagining of this house was
completely focused on the interior architecture. As an
important historic property, exterior alterations were not
allowed.
