Though Marnie might argue that it "depends on the evening," it's hard to imagine the couple has time to kick back at all. Tihany and the team just completed the expansion of The Joule Hotel in Dallas, adding 28 new suites, 3 penthouses, an 8,000 square foot spa, new event spaces and expanded lobby with retail. In his office in Rome, the Italian team is busy working to implement the European and Middle Eastern projects. In every project, from his first restaurant c. 1981 to the projects that have not yet been proposed, Tihany's legacy in restaurant and hospitality interiors is arguably the experience his designs permit for their audiences. As the designer said it, "We deal with perceptions. For me, each restaurant or hotel is a book that speaks in different languages and words. But it tells you a story. And ultimately you come to these establishments for the purpose of experiencing that chef's story." No matter what kind of story or experience you are in search of, the space in which you enter is guaranteed to communicate with you. The design that brings a story to color and shape also creates the experience that is shared by all who enter. Whether it calms, thrills, or inspires unexpected conversation, it is design that tells the story in the language we hope to hear.
