HYLAND vision of the Spectacular encased seamlessly inside the Gilded Age memory of the Villard Houses. With Tihany's vision, the essence of the space was transformed from relic to modern luxury. The circus had arrived in all of its sparkle and enchantment. When asked about the challenge of creating harmony between modernity and a historically intact design, Tihany reflected on his Italian schooling. He said: "as a young architectural student in Italy, I was inspired by the work of the great Italian architect Carlo Scarpa. His modern and beautifully detailed designs breathed fresh air into historical structures. "While preserving important historical structures is extremely important, it is equally important to allow people to view them through modern lenses." The success of Le Cirque 2000 confirmed Tihany's affinity to problem solve, but more importantly, the designer's ability to absorb the problem of the space, the client's intention, and the purpose of the design. Tihany knew the challenge of the space, he knew what kind of restaurant Sirio Maccinoi wanted to run, and he knew the experience the design was meant to create for its audience. Even if the concept of what the experience is, or what it is intended to be, can only be described in an abstract way, Tihany's intuition comes to life. In fact, the designer prefers it this way. He says, "I really, really like clients who cannot express an idea in words. They want something original. And those are the ones who I ask to cook for me."
